gators@ozracingform.comPLEASE NOTE:All ratings for CAULFIELD are for GOOD Track. Rail is True. Expecting the inside rail to be a no go zone (especially if we’ve had rain) as the day wears on. Watch and monitor of course…
Race 5 – Gp1 Thousand Guineas 3yoF – 1600m
1 – MISS FINLAND – Rolled Haradasun then dominant win here beating Anamato (since competitive Vs the boys) before leading out by 6L but just failing to relax in the lead there at Flem. Fought on very well. Again drawn out (don’t take $1.60 !) but expect that to suit her this track today, especially with a little more speed engaged. Top pick set-weights.
4 – PERMAISCUOUS – Enormous run at MV 2-back when 3-wide midfield then sent forward 800m. Was under pressure before turn losing ground yet picked-up and hit the line! Wow! Went to Sandown and out to 1400m and blitzed them by 4.3L. To 1600m now (may improve further) and will be right on the speed turning for home, probably outside Cheeky Choice in slightly better going. Best Value runner in the race.
2 – CHEEKY CHOICE – Keeps winning!!! Wet or Dry, 1200m or 1600m, handicap or set-weights. She has had soft leads last two but she didn’t ‘fall in’ in the Flight Stks she won by 2.3L and that was her first go at 1600m/ Just keeps improving. Stable don’t have great record in Melb (esp here) and has to come up another ½ notch here but will give a sight… e/way.
3 – SHE WILL BE LOVED – Sat 2nd 6L off Miss Finland and toughed it out to score. Same wights, same distance and suspect Miss Finland will be giving her a start today. Gives her all every race. A must for multiples at least.
7 – JUSTE MOMENTE – Settled last and a mile back, came widest and did record the fastest last 600m of the Edward Manifold. More pace on a big help to her and she looks the one with the most upside. May be looking for 2000m now but can ran on hard here on swoopers track…
Race 6 – Perri Cutten Classic – Mares – 1600m
16 – SAFWA – Excellent win 2-back over Gawne when held-up/ green and stretched out beautifully. Came 4-wide before the turn (no cart in) last start against the males and ran terrific for mine. Leaders walked (61.27 1st-1000m) and winner Cateclipse has since won again, runner-up Old Mystique since run super again. Back to Mares grade with the speed on and Boss to steer. Go well !
6 – VALPARAISO – Was running on strongly and looked likely to place behind Divine Madonna at Flem when stopped cold 75m out. That was only 2nd-up so fitter for it and out to 1600m a big plus (1 from 1 at 1600m beating Professional Lady who ran so well in Cran.Cup on Sunday). Gate 6 ideal. Winning/ Value chance here!
1 – DOUBTING – Touch of quality about her as proven when she took the scalp of Serenade Rose over this trip in Autumn (set-weights). She recorded the 4th-fastest final 200m in the Gp1 Rupert Clarke last start and that quinella Rewaaya/ Miss Andretti since run enormous. She finished alongside Niconero there! Loves Caulfield, drawn to sit midfield and run home hard. Handles all conditions.
11 – GAWNE – Very competitive through Safwa her last couple and meets her better off at the weights here. Will get gun run from gate 3 with McEvoy to steer and prefer her back to 1600m here. Form around Cateclipse/ Old Mystique from last run is super (she worked, wide early there) and suspect she’ll be way over the odds… as usual !
8 – PIN UP – Had every chance here 2-back but probably just needed it (2nd-up), wen to easier race 3rd-up and brained them leading all way (was bit of a leaders track that day at Werribee). Has a bit of quality about her but suspect she is still learning what toughness is required to be a top horse? Gets good run on the speed here and run well in a very difficult race… typical Mares race this time of year !
Race 7 – Mitty’s Cup – 1200m
10 – ANNA’S CHOICE – Good effort last start at Sandown when she got back on a day leaders had a good record and ran on strongly. They broke the track record there and third-placed Accardo since run well. Much prefer him out to 1200m from middle barrier and only run here was good to Shadoways when cluttered up inside in inferior ground. Very honest!
6 – OUR APACHE – Comes through the same race as Anna’s Choice and he got a mile back on that leader’s track and didn’t really do much. Does always tend to take a run and his 2nd-up record always shows sharp improvement. Was pipped by Chitabe 2nd-up last prep at Flem and 1200m trip suits better. Best on dry for mine but Dead ok (did win a race in Sydney by 4L on Dead track one day).
3 – COCINERO – 1st-up. Super-honest galloper. Was backed into favourite in Hareeba Stks 1st-up last prep but never saw daylight behind Ellicorsam off a slow pace. Drawn out but that may well suit by Race 7 today sweeping home down the middle. Rarely runs a bad race and won a race by 3L here one day…
7 – TRULY WICKED – Good win weaving through 1st-up before settled midfield behind Queen OF The Hill and leader’s walked, and dominated the race. Her last 200m was bettered by only Lyrical Bid there. She’s going very well but needs dry. Ran game third in Gp1 Sangster in Adelaide 3rd-up last prep (they walked up front in that also)
16 – MONTECHORO – Talented and may be the blowout here? Started short but forget he ran at MV last start when held-up, checked. Did enough 1st-up behind Shadoways in very fast time (that form good) and in here very light. Peak fit but drawn out (pattern?).
Race 8 – Ladies Day Plate Class 6 – 2000m
12 – NEWPORT – Flew home 1st-up at Rosehill Vs pattern of the day before out to 1600m and ran down Amen 2nd-up. That horse since run enormous last Saturday (3-4 wide, looked winner 300m still). Peak fit here 3rd-up and form this distance range through Cape Breton/ Impatient Star last prep is terrific. Gate 18 a worry but there looks good speed up front and doubt running-on will be a problem by race 8 today. Value in tough race !?!?
13 – POISED TO WIN – Never runs poorly. Another drawn out (he’ll slide forward) and hoping he slots in off solid pace. All form this prep super and thought he betas Pinsemtoit last start at Werribee if not for jock losing irons mid-race. Easy showcase race win previous start. Unknown 2000m.
10 – BROM FELINITY – Good mare who just seems to always find one better (and when she won, she lost protest!). No disgrace running second to Gallant Guru last start in hot race at Geelong (she beat home some handy, in-form gallopers there) and was spotted finding the line very nicely the start prior when 3L off Speedy Rossa in a race the leader’s absolutely crawled in (51.84 1st-800m). Has raced very well at 1800m so don’t see 2000m as a problem. Gets good run here. e/way all day with her.
3 – NEWGRANGE – Well-weighted relative to a few of his rivals here and close-up to Drac’s Back last start looks great form now he ran so well in the Winning Edge Stks on Saturday. Likes this track, likes this distance and should get beaut run from the alley. Very genuine, e/way…
7 – MR BIGALOW – Backed into favourite last start but no match for Siamun at Werribee. That horse since run very well in Winning Edge Stks here and expecting a fitter horse into this (was only 2nd-up there). All three dry track runs have been good and did beat Victory Sweep home over this trip one day at the Valley.
Tough Quaddie today, suggest “Flexi” and put a few extra’s in…
Good luck !Gator
